Female Catheters

Catheters for women are generally 6 to 8 inches long, straight and most have a funnel end. The length is specific to a brand.  One brand may be 6 inches long and another brand may be up to 7.5 inches long.  There is no difference in terms of drainage.  The choice of length is user preference.  Female catheters are used to drain the bladder and come in sizes from 8 to 18 French.   Most female catheters have color-coded funnels that indicate the French size of the catheter. They are available as pre-lubricated catheters and as catheters that need to have lubricant applied.  Catheters that need lubricant are less expensive while pre-lubricated catheters are more convenient, especially when traveling or while at work. Two of the more popular pre-lubricated female catheters are the Cure Twist and the Coloplast SpeediCath.  Women can also use male intermittent catheters.  The French sizes and drainage are the same.  Only the length is different.
